SERVICE INNOVATION

The innovation of smart cities has been assessed by analyzing the status of public and private app-web services and infrastructure-based services provided across various urban sectors related to smart cities. This analysis also measures the diversity of services, specifically how many service sectors are offered by each city, starting from 2017. These findings serve as foundational data for other analytical areas discussed later in the report. Furthermore, the degree of transition to smart city services utilizing various Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies was measured, analyzing trends in intelligent services and sustainability-focused services.

Specifically, the 2024 Index Report examines a total of 33,359 services offered over the past three years (’22-’24) across 50 smart cities, with a focus on app-web-based services (2,310) and infrastructure services centered on urban facilities (1,849). The report investigates areas of service provision, the number of services, service regions, the degree of interconnectivity among services, and the providers. Compared to 2022, it analyzes changes in the diversity of application domains for app-web-based and infrastructure services, interoperability among services, and diverse use cases from leading smart cities. Diversity in urban service sectors was analyzed through a fuzzy set qualitative comparison, detailing the diversity of service sectors and key service cases for each city
