Innovative Progress in Smart City Intelligence through the Expansion of Intelligent Information Technology The intelligence of smart cities focuses on solving urban problems through advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, Virtual Reality (VR/AR), digital twins, and blockchain. These technologies are applied across various sectors such as transportation, environment, energy, and administrative services, contributing to improving the operational efficiency and sustainability of cities. Recently, innovative technologies such as unmanned drones, autonomous buses, and everyday robots have been introduced into urban infrastructure, enabling real-time data analysis and automated decision-making. The convergence of these technologies helps smart cities solve urban problems more effectively and provide personalized services to citizens. This index report analyzes a total of 5,326 smart city appweb services, infrastructures, and innovation projects across 50 global cities. The analysis was conducted to evaluate the current state of advanced technology adoption and the level of intelligence in each city. The results showed that approximately 55% of all cities are actively utilizing 4th industrial revolution leading technologies, which represents an increase of 14%p from 41% in 2022 to 55% in 2024. In terms of specific technologies, IoT and big data are utilized in about 41% of the analyzed services, while AI, blockchain, and VR/AR account for about 14% of total technology applications. In particular, app-web-based services have increased from 18% in 2022 to 38% in 2024, a 20%p increase, demonstrating the accelerated digital transformation centered on citizens.
