URBAN SUSTAINABILITY

The field of urban sustainability is advancing various energy and environmental policies to achieve carbon-neutral cities while leveraging diverse smart technologies to realize these goals. This report reveals that approximately 40% of the smart city-related services, infrastructure, and initiatives from the 50 analyzed cities are directly or indirectly associated with sustainability. This marks a slight 2% decrease compared to 2022. Notably, the proportion of App-Web-based services with direct environmental impacts increased from 4% in 2022 to 7% in 2024, indicating a rise in smart city services directly linked to sustainability. A notable trend is the shift from infrastructure-focused approaches to citizen participation-centered services, with growing interest extending beyond energy and water to broader environmental issues. However, a detailed analysis highlights various changes that reflect the direction and characteristics of global smart city sustainability trends.
