Organic Smart City Operations through AI and Data-Based Integrated and Connected Infrastructure Development

  Recent smart cities aim to enhance the efficiency of urban infrastructure development and operation, strengthen sustainability, and ultimately improve the quality of life for citizens by leveraging core technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. To achieve this, cities and relevant organizations promoting smart city initiatives are utilizing cutting-edge technologies  such as IoT, AI, and big data analytics as key infrastructure resources to address various urban challenges, including traffic congestion, energy waste, environmental pollution, and inefficiencies in public services. Solving these urban issues necessitates the design and construction of sustainable smart city infrastructure that enhances the integration and connectivity of data across the entire smart city data lifecycle.

  In this index report, the infrastructure necessary for the successful implementation of smart cities was analyzed from various perspectives. The study focused on 50 cities and examined key common infrastructure elements, including “City  OS/Platform,” “Public IoT private networks,” “Public Wi-Fi,” “Public Cloud,” “Open Data Portal,” and “Integrated Operations Centers(IOC).” The characteristics and status of each infrastructure were collected and analyzed. The analysis revealed that these common infrastructures enable the collection, processing, analysis, and utilization of data across the entire city. Furthermore, advanced intelligent infrastructure, including AIoT (Artificial Intelligence + Internet of Things), was identified as a critical component that plays an essential role in achieving data-driven smart cities.
